If you plan on visiting Mexico any time soon, don’t take off without a prepaid SIM card. The Mexico SIM card provides a simple, convenient, and affordable way for any traveler to make and receive those all-important calls while abroad.
The prepaid SIM card for Mexico is a practical option for using your existing world phone as a prepaid Mexico cell phone while you’re in the country at a better rate than you’d pay for a Mexico cell phone rental. It’s also a trouble-free ticket to using the same options that the Mexicans themselves use—the local Mexican cell phone system. The SIM chip, combined with an unlocked GSM World cell phone, helps you keep the lines of communication open without being burdened by high international roaming surcharges applicable when you use your “home” SIM card abroad. You’ll likewise enjoy the benefit of SMS text messaging, voicemail, a local cell phone number in Mexico, and FREE incoming calls while in Baja California, Rio Colorado, and Sonora. The prepaid feature gives you complete control over your costs, and with our low domestic and international calling rates, having a cell phone in Mexico is affordable for all. Access to customer service from your Mexico cellular phone is available 24 hour a day, so you’ll always have assistance with any unexpected issues or questions about your calls. No yearly contract, monthly charges, or credit check is involved.
Your Mexico SIM Card will require a SIM-unlocked GSM cell phone that supports the 1900 frequency. If you do not have your own international cell phone, we have several models available for your consideration. Please click here for more information.
Domestic calling rates are dependent on where you are calling from. There are 2 domestic rate tables below. This first table has the airtime rates from your Mexico SIM card if you are in Baja California ( Tijuana, Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas), Rio Colorado and Sonora. The second table has airtime rates for calls from all other areas in Mexico.
Calling From: Baja California, Rio Colorado, Sonora
Region 6: Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Queretaro, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi, and the following cities in Jalisco: Huejucar, Santa Maria de los Angeles, Colotlan, Teocaltiche, Huejuquilla el Alto, Mezquitic, Villa Guerreo, Bolanos, Lagos de Moreno, Ojuelos and Encarnacion de Diaz
Calling From: All other regions
The table below reflects the local per minute rate with your Mexico SIM card in all other regions outside of Baja California (Mexico City, Acapulco Yucatan, etc.).
International calls from your world cell phone have never been easier with your local prepaid Mexico SIM card. Rates are per minute for international outgoing calls from a Mexico prepaid SIM card while you are in Mexico.
All incoming international calls are charged at a flat 3.48 pesos ($0.31 USD) per minute in Baja California and 5 pesos ($0.44 USD) per minute everywhere else in Mexico.
Additional airtime is available through the purchase of airtime vouchers, also called reload codes. Airtime vouchers are available in these 3 denominations:
To add the voucher, simply scratch off the grey protective layer to reveal your voucher code. When typed into the keypad of your international cell phone, the voucher will credit your SIM card the respective peso denomination you purchased. Airtime vouchers are available locally in Mexico at tabac shops, convenience stores, Telcel shops and authorized dealers.
Remember you do not need to purchase another Mexico SIM card when your airtime balance is depleted; you only need a recharge voucher.
If you do not recharge your SIM card balance within 2 months, any remaining airtime balance will expire from your local Mexico SIM card. You will have an additional 2 months to add airtime to your SIM card and keep the same Mexico cell phone number. After 4 months if you have not added any airtime credit your Mexico mobile phone number and SIM card will be disconnected. To get connected again you will be required to purchase a new SIM card. This 2 / 4 month validity period starts the day you arrive in Mexico and activate your SIM card.
