If you plan on visiting Italy any time soon, don’t take off without a prepaid SIM card. The Italy SIM card provides a simple, convenient, and affordable way for any traveler to make and receive those all-important calls while abroad.

The prepaid SIM card for Italy is a practical option for using your existing world phone as a prepaid Italy cell phone while you’re in the country at a better rate than you’d pay for an Italy cell phone rental. It’s also a trouble-free ticket to using the same options that the Italians themselves use—the local Italian cell phone system. The SIM chip, combined with an unlocked GSM World cell phone, helps you keep the lines of communication open without being burdened by high international roaming surcharges applicable when you use your “home” SIM card abroad. You’ll likewise enjoy the benefit of SMS text messaging, voicemail, call transfer, call waiting, and FREE incoming calls. The prepaid feature gives you complete control over your costs, and with our low domestic and international calling rates, having a cell phone in Italy is affordable for all. Access to customer service from your Italy cellular phone is available 24 hour a day, so you’ll always have assistance with any unexpected issues or questions about your calls. No yearly contract, monthly charges, or credit check is involved.

Your Italy SIM Card will require a SIM-unlocked GSM cell phone that supports the 900 and 1800 frequencies. If you do not have your own international cell phone, we have several models available for your consideration. Please click here for more information.

Adding Airtime

To add airtime to your TIM SIM card, you will need to purchase RICARICard airtime vouchers which you will find available at most convenient stores, tabac shops and petrol stations, conveniently located throughout Italy. They are available in 3 EUR ($3.87 USD), 25 EUR ($32 USD) and 50 EUR ($64 USD) denominations.

RICARICard airtime vouchers are available at face value, so a 3 EUR airtime voucher will cost you 3 EUR and subsequently will credit your Italy SIM card with 3 EUR.

To credit your prepaid SIM card with the airtime voucher simply:

  • Scratch off the protective layer to reveal your recharge voucher code
  • Dial 40916 from your mobile phone
  • Press 4 to recharge
  • Press 1 to select the RICARICard recharge option
  • Enter your 16-digit code when prompted
  • The number will be repeated back to you
  • Press 8 to confirm

Do not purchase another TIM SIM card when your airtime balance is depleted.

Service Life

Each recharge extends the validity of the SIM card for 12 months from the date of the recharge, plus one month in which you may only receive calls. If you do not recharge your SIM card within that period, the SIM card and accompanying phone number will expire and any remaining airtime will be forfeit. If you wish to continue using your Italy service, you will need to purchase another SIM card.

NOTE: Incoming calls are NOT allowed in the Vatican.
